One of my many Christmas cards, this one will go to my brother in Nevada. I used the Concord  & 9th JOY stamp set for the large JOY sentiment done in Tsukineko Delicata Golden Glitz then over stamped with Versamark ink and clear embossing powder heat set over it to keep that gold glitz front and center! I used Stampin' Up Definitely Decorative Pinecone in Stampin' Up Glorious Green ink for the evergreen needles and Stampin' Up Close to Cocoa pine cones and splatters. I used a Hero Arts sentiment from the Heavens Rejoice set to go around the JOY and just masked using my MISTI to over stamp it in Stampin' Up Ruby Red ink. I used the Wink of Stella pen in green glitter to draw my own pine needles over the stamped ones because I just gotta add glimmer to every card! (He'll never even notice it, I'm sure!). I mounted it on a Gina K Designs kraft card base to finish it.

November Giveaway... Blue Bird Birthday

Altenew's winter cardinal stamp set... I have an extra for my November giveaway! See below!

November has come and I can't believe we're so close to the holidays now! I wanted to use my new Altenew Winter Cardinal stamp/die set in the non-traditional way so I made him blue! I think he kind of looks like a bluejay/Stellar's jay, except their heads are mostly black rather than just the mask. I used some Hero Arts, Gina K Designs and Stampin' Up inks for all the blues onto Gina K Designs heavy base weight card stock.  I used my Spectrum Noir shimmer pen on the dark areas of the bird. The background is an experiment with Brushos in yellows and greens. The branch (and bird) is die cut from the same combo stamp and die set from some Gina K Designs dark brown card stock. The sentiment is a combination of Papertrey Ink and Hero Arts. I added Nuvo drops in glossy black!

You can see the shimmer of the glitter pen on this photo.

Birthday Wishes Bird... October Giveaway Winner!

This card was hard to come by because I'm terrible at multi-layer stamping! It took several tries to figure out how to do it for me! Personally, I do light to dark in stamping... lightest ink is the bottom layer (the most solid layer) with darkest ink on top (usually the sketchiest details). That's probably how you're supposed to do it anyway but I needed to learn that for myself by doing it multiple times!

This card combines three different stamps from Hero Arts (bird), Altenew (branch) and Papertrey Ink (sentiment). And inks from Hero Arts, Stampin' Up, Ranger and Gina K designs. It was worth the effort because I think it turned out very nice for a fellow co-worker/friend!

I'll let you know next weekend if I have to pick another winner! It could be you! ;)

August Giveaway Ends 8/18... Matanuska Glacier Birthday!

UPDATED: BIG OOPS! I tagged this post in some links of my card project and had added the giveaway ends 8/18 instead of 8/16... so to keep it fair I'm extending the time to midnight Alaska time on Thursday, August 18th! Good luck!

My card is for my husband's 60th birthday! We went and walked on Matanuska Glacier on his birthday for the second time but this time we had our daughter, Megan, and seven year old grandson, Logan, with us! It was their first time and both were suitably stunned by the event!

My card started with a Hero Arts stencil called Elegant Pine. I used Wendy Vecchi translucent embossing paste on it with some ultra fine glitter that I colored with Mowed Lawn distress ink. Then it sat for a very long time... months in fact! Then when I needed a card for my husband, who adores walking in the wild woods around our Alaskan cabin to nearby Granite Creek, I picked it up along with a panel I had white heat embossed with Stampin' Up pine branch and then used more distress ink to brush in a background. I didn't like the look of glittery tree for my husband so I used some distress paint in blue to mute the glitter effect. It worked perfectly! I adhered the tree to the pine bough panel. Then using two different My Favorite Things dies (Brushtroke Birthday Greetings and Blueprints #26) I adhered them in front of the tree. I decided to do the Happy in front of the Birthday greeting and pop it forward for some extra dimension. The numbers are from Papertrey Inks By The Numbers die set in black card stock and then Glossy Accents over it to make dimensional and shiny!

He loved it, of course! And his 60th birthday was a memorable one! I'll post some glacier pictures in my giveaway winner announcement post!

My days off seem to go by so fast but I did get time to use the Simon Says Stamp "Prayers" set that I won from Jennifer McGuire's blog and a new to me technique that I probably saw on her blog too! These cards were made by coloring with distress markers and spritzing with water then stamping. It's a great way to get a variety of colors quickly without ink pads! I love the watercolor look too!

Butterflies... and Lasting Hearts Card Drive

Hello and welcome!

I make a lot of cards that I don't sell or have a personal use for and when I read on Jennifer McGuire's blog about the Lasting Hearts Card drive I decided that not only did I recently make some cards to send for this very worthy cause, but that I'd be making more for this special program. (If you go to the links provided on Jennifer's name and the card drive itself, she will explain it a whole lot better than I can.)

This program touches close to home for me because I too, had a miscarriage. It was in between the births of my two daughters about 27 years ago and happened only a few days after I found out I was pregnant. My husband and I always figured that that special child was a son and he's now safe in the arms of Jesus. Why we didn't get to "keep" him is not ours to say. We felt all the range of emotions too... and only time passing has made it possible to even write about it now. Not many of our family or friends even know about it.

And so I will be sending these two cards as well as others I make along the way, to let someone else going through the same thing, that there is someone who cares and who prays for them to hold on... to Jesus.

Happy 2016 from Alaska! I didn't make quite to midnight last night but I have reason to celebrate today as it's my grandson, Logan's, 7th birthday! I wish I was with him in California to help him celebrate!

I did some online shopping during the Black Friday weekend and have been getting the goodies in and using them on cards! I've wanted some of these for awhile now and have been experimenting with Brushos, Zig Clean Color Real Brush pens, Kuretake Gansai Tambi watercolors and the Minc machine! Those projects will be forthcoming! But I realized I had a lot of supplies I was not and would not be using due to my own style of card making.

I've been purging some of my card making supplies and you will benefit from it! I've also won a few blog hops and giveaways lately (December seems to be my lucky month!) and so the items that don't suit my style of card-making will be given away as I host monthly giveaways starting today! Some of these are brand new items and some have been used but are still in very good condition. Giveaway Winner... and Hero Arts Layered Bird Card

One layer CAS birthday card for my husband

Hello and welcome!

Today I'm sharing the card I made for my husband Kevin's birthday. I've always wanted to try the multi color layering stamps that I've seen from Hero Arts and this bird was the perfect one for my husband, who has been a bird watcher his whole life! I personally adore chickadees but this bird isn't really chickadee shaped so I went with muted drab tones (that are usually the female of the species!) in Hero Hues. I used my MISTI stamp tool but still had a hard time perfecting lining the stamps on one another... that will come with practice, I'm sure. My issue, not the stamps! So to cover a slight "miss" I outlined his body with a black Copic multi-liner.

I wanted the focus on the bird and so used soft green and brown for the branch and needles (from an old Stampin' Up set, I believe). The sentiment is a combination of Penny Black ("happy birthday") and a lesser known company from Blitsy ("love"). I call my husband, Babe and Love... what do you call your spouse?

Baby, Butterfly, Birthday!

I made a few cards over the last week but haven't had time to do posts about each one so I decided to do one post with several different cards in them!

This first card is a stamp I found (again) at a thrift store and I bought it for the sole purpose of practicing my Copic coloring!  I did a simple version here for a boy with blues and greens. Now I don't have a lot of Copics so it's tough getting the colors to blend well. I added some vellum hearts because there was that little blank space on the lower right that needed something to finish it. The sentiments are from Winnie & Walter and Papertrey Ink combined.

This next card is the beautiful butterfly from Stampin' Up on black cardstock! I used embossing ink and some blue Perfect Pearls to add shimmer. I cut it out of the black cardstock and added it to a Stampin' Up kraft cardstock. I stamped some thrift store stamps (yes, again!) and added some blue bling to match. I thought this might be good for a graduation card or someone who is going off to college or out on their own for the first time.

This last card is one I remade after doing some of it in a local card shop card class. I rarely use pattern paper and ever rarer use pink on a card! I don't know the cardstock base or pattern paper company as it was included in the class. It's hard to see but the hearts are glittery pink and I hand drew the strings. The "happy birthday" are die cuts from black foam using Clearly Besotted dies.

Happy Hydrangea...

Happy birthday hydrangea

Hello and welcome,
I did this card a few days ago. It's a hydrangea stamp I rescued from a thrift store! I inked the top in distress ink purple and the bottom in distress ink green and stamped it on Strathmore cold press watercolor paper. I used distress markers and a Wink of Stella pen that I had added water to to color with. I'm obviously still learning my watercoloring technique! I went for a very purple hydrangea this time (my last one was blues and purple and can be found here because it was before I started blogging). The background is watercolored as well in distress blue. I used an older Stampin' Up greeting and kraft cardstock too.

It would have been a good card for my mom because she loved purple, but I lost her almost two years ago... that's when I changed my favorite color to purple... in her honor!

I've been being kept busy learning a new job and so hope to get a couple of posts up during this week! I also have a moose post to put up with more moose with twin calves video! Stay tuned!

Butterfly mess or masterpiece?!

Glitter pens butterfly

This was one of those cards that I thought I was just going to have to throw away! I originally stamped the Stampin' Up butterfly in a purple Ranger distress ink to watercolor it... but forgot it wasn't on watercolor paper until AFTER I tried to watercolor it! So next step... add Wink of Stella to some of the areas I had watercolored... it just made it look like a glittery mess! Finally decided to go with Sakura glitter pens I've had for ages! Different, wild colors! That made it look better but it still had the purple outlined butterfly. So a black Copic to the rescue! Did you know that the Wink of Stella pen still shows up shimmery after having Copics on it?? I didn't until I started coloring it! I love the effect! After adding the black... POW!... it jumped off the page! I fussy cut it out and attached it to a Neenah 110 lb solar white card base. Here's a close up picture of the glittery colors!

So the reason I told you I was starting this blog was to be able to "try out" for card design teams. That's what this post is about! I came across The Card Concept from another card blog that I follow. I saw that they were looking for new design team members and decided I had nothing to lose to apply! To apply, you had to look at past challenges and choose one to create a new card and describe why you want to be a designer!

So I'm using their challenge #36  and this is the photo for inspiration:

What I saw was a lot of white and a little green. I've had lots of "styles" since I started making cards but I ALWAYS come back to loving clean and simple designs. My style isn't always as clean and simple as I envision but it still is what attracts me and, in fact, most of the card blogs I follow are pretty strictly clean and simple designs. I'm definitely NOT a layer upon layer type person!

So with this card I am applying to be a Clean and Simple designer for The Card Concept! As the saying goes, nothing ventured, nothing gained!

I do have to show you a close up of the fern because it's so classy with the subtle glimmer of watered down Wink of Stella! (My photo taking and editing skills will get better as I blog!)

I know... another moose!

Thanks everyone for stopping by and seeing my first blog post a few days ago! I'll try to keep you entertained enough to come back!

Our current residence is a haven for moose... especially a mama moose with two very small twin calves. There's also an older "calf" (that was kicked out due to current calves coming along) who wanders through. So I'm on a moose kick especially after finding this stamp!

Happy Father's Day Moose

I told you you'd see this moose stamp again! I just can't help it! I colored him with several brown Sakura glitter pens (the glimmer is not really showing up in this picture) and then used Ranger distress inks on the background. I used the older Stampin' Up Inspired by Nature set for the reeds and the kraft cardstock it is attached too. The sentiment is from Winnie & Walter's The Big, the Bold and the Happy set (I adore all Winnie & Walter sentiments!).

I colored this for Kathy Racoosin's 30 day color challenge... it inspires me to color when there's a challenge!

Now I'll try not to do another moose for a few days... in fact I was working on tropical fish today so you'll see that one in the next post!

Hello from Alaska and welcome to my blog!

So I've finally stepped into the world of blogging! My husband has been encouraging me to blog about the cards I create and just about some of our daily life happenings in a small town in Alaska! Not sure if anyone will ever read this but I thought I might as well get the first post out there! My art business is called Forget Me Not Designs so I thought my blog should be called the same with the added Alaska to catch all that Google search traffic! I make cards, paint animals on rocks and teach One Stroke painting when I can (I'm a One Stroke Certified Instructor). And now I'll even add a card I made today to prove I make them!

Moosing You...

I colored this card for Kathy Racoosin's 30 day color challenge that started again on June 1st. This moose stamp from Misty Mountain Rubber Stamps will get lots of use by me in the upcoming weeks!  I colored him with a brown distress ink marker and used distress ink to color the background as well. (I'll be learning how to add links to products used as I learn to blog!) I just wrote the message in my handwriting because I was trying to be funny... moosing you instead of missing you! (Did you get that or did I have to explain it!). I actually used sequins *gasp* that I found at a thrift store that will last me years! It has an all over shimmer with Perfect Pearls mist.
